From Oslo airport we have traveled about an hour by train to the capital.The view is amazing and Norway its must visit country as it is considered as one of the greenest countries in Europe.
Founded around 1000 AD, and established a "kaupstad" or trading place in 1048 by King Herald tird, the city was elevated to a bishopric in 1070 and a capital under Haacon fifth around 1300. Personal Union with Denmark from 1397 - 1523 and again from 1536 -1840 and with Sweden from 1814 to 1905 reduced its influence. After being destroyed by a fire in 1624, the city was moved closer to Akershuse Castle during the reign of King Christian forth and renamed Christiania in his honor. It was established as a municipality on 1 January 1838. , It was known as Kristiania from 1877 to 1925, when its original Norwegian name was restored.
Oslo is the economic and governmental center of Norway. The city is also a hub of Norwegian trade, banking, industry and shipping. It is an important center for maritime industries and maritime trade in Europe.
With Keith we have staid tree days in Oslo a lovely hotel with nice breakfast in a very good aria of Oslo.The idea was just to get some feeling of real North.Oslo has very fresh air and its bright and very clean.Norway is known as one of the richest countries in Europe and it is very expensive.
Than we have walked trough the lovely Vigilante park in the center of the city and went to Mac Donald. Than we took some tourist brochures and found that near the city its traditional wooden houses park.Inside there was pharmacy and also church and bakery from the old days and you can view some really nice Norwegian Interiors from 18th century.
After we have seen the city theater and enjoined visiting the castle and the park around.
Scandinavians have distinctive fashion and are famous with is colorful sweaters and jackets and also nice suede shoes.
Walking around the city we have seen some Bulgarians working in a traditional Norwegian pub and set to have a beer with the company of people.The weather was really nice and sunny.We have walked trough really nice quarters with old traditional houses.
On the last day we have visited nice restaurant.The food its lovely and we had some fish.You can bee surprised by the amazing contemporary architecture made the city unique and very modern.Norwegians using lots of glass to build them and the buildings are in all sorts of amazing shapes as the opera house.
In the center you can see some really dark and old neglected constructions which make the place a bit dull.
Bar and pubs are very comfortable and had good spirit.Woolen sweaters and shoals are must buy made from bright and pastel color materials and fantastic leather shoes.The parks are clean and very green.
In the city center around the main street Karl Johans gate you find discos, night clubs, bars, jazz clubs and cafes in between all the stores, shopping centers and hotels. Downtown Oslo has a little bit of everything.
Rosenkrantz' gate is the street for discos and nightclubs, around Tinghuset and Stortorvet there are jazz and blues clubs, while Karl Johans gate is lined with bars and shops. The biggest concert venues are also centrally located. There are always people along Karl Johans gate, day and night. This is also the place for street parades, and on Norway's constitution day, 17 May, the streets downtown are crowded with people from all over the city, many of them dressed in national costumes.
Kvadraturen is the name of the historical center in Oslo. The area between Akershus Fortress and Karl Johans gate, Jernbanetorget and Egertorget got its name because of the rectangular street pattern. This is where king Christian IV founded Christiania after the big fire in 1624. Some of Oslo’s oldest buildings are located in Kvadraturen, and and now the area can boast a number of fine art galleries and museums.
