Salzburg its the European capital of the classical music. Its the birth place of Mozart. We have found very nice hotel and we have staid for 5 days. The town its small and very cozy.We have done many walks around it and enjoyed some good food. The restaurants are very nice with good food.During the time that we v been there there was a exhibition of The jewelries of Moserad Cabaie. She is Spanish opera singer(soprano) born in Cathalunia. She is interpreting some nice parts of operas from Bellini,Donizetti and Rossini. The jewelries that has been used on stage was displayed at the Salzburg gallery. As we walked trough the town there is no possible to miss the lovely Mirabell palace with its garden. We have done some really nice shopping and went for chocolade and made some photos. The Palace: a precious jewel Prince-Archbishop Franz Anton von Harrach had Mirabell Palace redesigned by the famous baroque architect, Lukas von Hildebrandt, from 1721 to 1727, integrating the individual buildings into a self-contained complex. The palace was damaged by the great fire that swept through the city on April 30, 1818. A number of frescoes including those by Johann Michael Rottmayr and Gaetano Fanti fell victim to the flames. The grand marble staircase that led into the palace and the marble hall survived unscathed. Mirabell Palace owes its present unassuming appearance to Peter de Nobile, the court's architectural consultant and director of the Vienna School of Architecture. Details such as the edging of the windows, the capitals and stuccowork bear witness to the palace's former splendor. The masterly staircase by Lukas von Hildebrandt is one of the most precious works of art at Mirabell Palace. |
The schloss is also famous for its jeux d'eau ("watergames") in the grounds, which are a popular tourist attraction in the summer months. These games were conceived by Markus Sittikus, a man with a keen sense of humour, as a series of practical jokes to be performed on guests. Notable features include stone seats around a stone dining table through which a water conduit sprays water into the seat of the guests when the mechanism is activated, and hidden fountains that surprise and spray guests while they take part on the tour. Other features are a mechanical, water-operated and music-playing theatre built in 1750 showing various professions at work, a grotto and a crown being pushed up and down by a jet of water, symbolising the rise and fall of power. At all of these games there is always a spot which is never wet: that where the Archbishop stood or sat, to which there is no water conduit and which is today occupied by the tour guide.
Trick fountains hidden in a dinner table Hellbrunn stands in a large park with a neighboring zoo, a stone theater and a small building known as the Monatschlossl, or the "little month-palace",as it was built during the period of one month after a visitor commented to Sittikus that a building on the hill would improve the view from one of the schloss' windows. The archbishop took heed of his advice, and when the visitor returned a month later the Monatschlossl was built. It now houses the ethnographical section of the Carolina Augusteum Museum of Salzburg. |
