Latvia Riga 2007
I have visited Riga as I have found nice budget trip to there with my female friend. We have found some hotel in the suburbs of Riga and went to walk around town.It was winter and the cafes are lovely in there.Inspired by Russian culture in some of the ex states we have decided that Riga will be one lovely place for us.
The service at the restaurants is great and the food is Russian mainly.Walking through town we have seen.most of the old part of Riga.We went shopping at the main market of the city some cakes and also some gold.On a second day we have visited big shopping mall and we have choose some shoes and jackets for us. as well as some gifts for the family. The best things to buy in there are perfumes local production on a very good price. My friend was moaning most of the time and it was very difficult for me to walk with her and take a good images of places. We tried to keep ourselves cheep and we went to buy some food at the shops and we had some champagne and also caviar.Riga, the capital of Latvia is an amazing place for tourism, wild weekends and everyday living. Riga is well known for its architectural and cultural values. Riga is located on the both shores of Daugava River, about 15km (9mi) from its mouth in the south-eastern corner of the Gulf of Riga. The capital of Latvia its famous with its lovely ornamented buildings and also narrow and cozy streets with lanterns.
Centuries-old German buildings are strewn throughout the historic quarter of Vecriga (Old Riga), and taking the lift up to the spire of St Peter’s Church for an aerial view of the neighbourhood is one of the highlights of a visit. Riga Castle dates from 1330, when it was built as the headquarters of the Livonian Order. It’s now the home of Latvia’s president. With as much history as Riga has, it is difficult to decide where to begin the exploration of it all.You can see very good examples of Art Deco architecture which makes the city unique by itself.
I had to buy myself some shoes as the one I had got soaked in water and become really smally so I had to spend 3 hours of drying them with the hairdryer.(((((Very unpleasant really. There was a nice designed leather and fur jackets but I could not quite see were to wear them.We have used the trams for moving around and some parts of Riga are also just covered with block towers. My friend was not that much interested of walking allot don't know why and we set down at one cafe were they was serving nice cocktails and also some cakes. The cups that they are serving the coffee was very nice and they have also offered us some biscuits.
On the way to the airport we got some taxi with very friendly stuff whit hum I have talked for a while Russian.
Riga its famous its its very distinctive look and Art Nouveau architecture. The style its specific with its asymmetrical shapes and also Curved arches and some really collaborate ornaments.
The country not long ago become part of European Union.Latvia has its own language and culture but also very strong Russian influence. Nowadays the Baltic republics are main destination for British to visit .
after the fall of Soviet Union.
I have just recently found one band which is very nice to listen called "The Hobos" The songs are written on English language.
