Greece Athens 2002
On a way to Bulgaria from Spain we have decided to take trip to Athens and staid in there about 3 days.We have visited the shops
with souvenirs and also Acropolis were was a small night party with some hippies. The view from the hill of the city is great. We have also seen Agora historic site and Dionysus theater. As we had some tickets for the underground we have seen most of Athens. The underground its very clean and new covered with marble.
There is lovely walk sides restaurants which are giving nice atmosphere to the city. The are quite expensive really.
There is many shops which are working till late at night near the Acropolis. Most of the cafes are open during the evenings. The heat is dreadful during the summer and it is very unpleasant to walk. The hotels are dreadful and we had to change tree of them till we found something decent with air-conditioning.
Greeks are sealing nice jewelries and also hand painted porcelain sets for coffee. We have made some shopping and after we had some watermelon with wine.
The restaurants are expensive and we went to self catering fast food place on the first day.The city its dusty and very busy. Except the churches that you can see its not of a much excitement. The city is buzz y and on the streets you can see lots of taxis and motorbikes. The most beautiful part of it is district Pelaka.
On third day we set at one small restaurant with the good view of Zeus temple and we have tough about to take a bus to Bulgaria as we had to pass most of the country.Greece is with very sandy and rocky landscape but you also could see many rock formations and something like small mountains into the sea.
Most of the time we felt tired and with flu in the hotels and the long journey made us very ill.
From Athens we have taked the main motorway and we have passes throughout the towns of Erythres,Laryssa,Plathamones,Leptokatya and also Katerini and Theseloniki. Ofcorse that we have not seen
all of the towns but we have passed trough some streets. The road was very nice and has passed around the sea.

Katerini |
The origin of the name is obscure. The modern town was probably founded during Ottoman rule, but already from the 13th century, travellers as well as maps record the existence of a settlement called Hatera (Ἅτηρα), which may have been the origin of the modern name. Thus Felix Beaujour recorded its name as "Katheri", while François Pouqueville gives the name of the settlement as "Kateri Hatera".According to another theory, the town derives its name from the small chapel dedicated to Saint Catherine (Aikaterini in Greek) to the east of the town, dating to at least the early 19th century. The latter hypothesis influenced the bureaucratic usage, where the town is found as "Aikaterini" or "Agia Aikaterini" until the early 20th century, until the vernacular name Katerini prevailed.
